Exciting upgrades:Willie McCool Airfield Reopening Celebration On May 30th, Propnuts of Las Vegas sponsored a “Willie McCool Airfield Reopening Celebration”, to mark the completion of the long awaited driveway paving, as well as general airfield upgrades and our strong relationship with the City of North Las Vegas. The event brought together Propnuts members, local RC aviation enthusiasts who regularly use the park, and governmental leaders who have recognized the need for ongoing infrastructure improvements to the park.
In attendance were Scott Black, North Las Vegas mayor pro tem, Ida Zeiler, neighbor and candidate for NLV City Council Ward 3, Stephanie Menzies, representing the NLV Planning Commission, and Eric Cole, Recreation Supervisor for the NLV Parks and Recreation Department. To commemorate the occasion, the club provided hot dogs and drinks, music to provide a “party atmosphere”, the opportunity for our guests to fly RC aircraft using “Buddy Box” training systems, and demonstration flights by our most skilled pilots. Ida presented the Propnuts with a new American Flag to be flown at the field. The newly paved driveways resolve long-standing accessibility issues, ensuring a smoother, safer entrance for visitors and pilots (and their aircraft!), while securing the park’s future as a premier hub for local hobbyists. Thanks to all who supported this effort, making it a productive and fun experience. Some pictures from the event are attached. Propnuts - Willie McCool Memorial Model Air Park, has been granted a 700 foot altitude limit in accordance with the AMA having been granted a National Authorization allowing our members at AMA club sites in Class G airspace to operate above 400 feet above ground level (AGL) for routine, day-to-day activities.
